Here is an organization I just learned about and joined. They allow you to place your ad on their home page grid for free. What’s more, it doesn’t even have to be for a pay-per-pixel-site like us. Here is how our ad looks:

Serendipity, I’d say. After doing a post on vLogDir.com, and thanking its progenitor, “Sull” Michael Sullivan, we received an instant email from him.

Turns out he owns MillionDollarVideopage.com too! And, since he hasn’t had the time to develop it, he, truly unselfishly, put a link on it to our site.

June, one of my partners in charge of marketing, showed the rest of us ignoramuses the latest statistics about high definition tv (yes, HDTV) and computer monitor sales some three months (eons?) ago. She was intoning, with a missionary’s zeal:

“Digital convergence is now combining the functions of HDTV and computer monitors into one device, in the 16:9 screen dimensional ratio. Sales of these HDTV monitors are climbing fast, making the single function computer monitor obsolete. Here, watch what Robin Heron and Patrick Norton of Digital Life TV, affectionately known in geekdom as DL.TV have to say about everything HDTV:

So. What are YOU going to do about it???” she demanded to know.

We squirmed. (Not really.) “Good question. What do YOU propose we do about it???????” Million Dollar Web TV will be operational for 10+ years. What are we to do about it? We could / should / might / may:

1. Change the home station page ad grid layout to 1250 x 800 pixels.
2. Redesign the other pages to conform to this ratio.

So we have. Our developers outdid themselves - all in midstream of building the site. They probably - surely? - call me a slave driver. If that’s what it takes… I can handle that… especially from thousands of miles away….

Jorge is starting to promote Million Dollar Web TV on his ABW forum. Here is his latest posting. No need for me to add anything to it. Thanks Jorge!

After countless hours wracking our brains, we discovered the obvious:

1. We need to move very quickly to sell our ad space once the site becomes operational

2. To make this happen, we have to find and deploy a qualified online sales force

3. To achieve that, we must find and utilize the best affiliate program(s)

4. We should have the program managed by a true professional

Having done our due diligence, we have chosen Jorge Ramirez, and his company,

JRami.com, to design and execute a full marketing program for us. A major component of this being an affiliate program, of course. According to Jorge:

“An affiliate program is really your outside sales team driving targeted traffic to your web site. Having an affiliate program will expand your web reach exponentially. With thousands of other web sites talking about your products and services and branding you, you’ll reach more people with the right message than you ever dreamed possible. And you don’t have to pay affiliates until they make sales.

In this vein, at Jorge’s suggestion, we already redesigned the Place Initial Ad / Video page,

to make it really easy to order. He also started to include a link in his signature block on the affiliate forums for Million Dollar Web TV. Way to go!

Me, of course. I used a webmail program, called “Horde,” on our server. It allows you to build a blacklist of all the spamming emails, match them against incoming ones, and drop the ones it recognizes straight into the shredder. The list grew to thousands of emails in no time, as I average 100-200 of spams a day. Not excessive by today’s standards, as we all know….

Funny part is that Tech Support was actually right in asserting the system was overloaded by either one or more scripts running at the time. Except it was one of the applications they provide gratis that locked the site up.

They and I obviously thought it was one or more of our newly minted scripts that had caused the problem. Thanks to detective Shreekant, our lead developer, that was not the case. Now we can concentrate on finishing the site ASAP. That’s what we are doing.

My postings from now on will be mostly about marketing activities, alliances, and business in general. (So I hope.) We’ll have a lot ot report!

Have we become THAT popular??? Twice this week we had this message from our hosting server. Wow! We’re not even live on the Net. Shall we be impressed? Worried? Paranoid? Yes, I know, one of my favorite authors said: “Only the paranoid survive.” Who? If you don’t remember I won’t tell you. Hint: He had “something to do” with Intel.

This IS making me paranoid. Time to look up site statistics. Scanning, scanning…yes, we had 376 and 198 hits / 38 and 34 visits / 4.22 and 1.85 MB bandwidth use on 4/26 and 4/27 respectively. How can this exceed ANY quota???

So, where does this leave us? Of course! Back to our site developers. Let’s see what they figure out…
